I’m currently an anthropology and advertising major, and I’ve been thinking about how I can apply what I learn in the business world out of college. I’ve always been a fan of music, and I’m interested in using what I learn from anthropology to promote musicians from a unique perspective by telling the story of the artists from a down to earth view. This video is about an executive named Bruce Flohr who does that. When media took over the music industry, it became paramount to reinvent the artist in a whole new light. Instead of using the artist to fit the mold of a brand, the brand now fits the mold of the artist and lets their creativity take center stage. That is what Flohr does here, while he isn’t necessarily an anthropologist, he shows how one in the field might approach this. I enjoy the unique outlook that he brings by making it all about the story of the artist and this is one possibility that I might aspire towards in my professional career.
