Archaeology/Museum Internship at the American Museum of Natural History

The North American Archaeology Department at the American Museum of Natural History is now accepting applications for our summer semester. Our summer interns will staff the North American Archaeology (NAARCH) Lab. The NAARCH Lab handles, stores, and analyzes a wide variety of artifacts from St. Catherines Island.

Past interns have had the opportunity to work with Native American lithics, pottery, and beads and Spanish colonial material culture. Lab techniques include fine-fraction sorting, cataloging, and basic artifact analysis.

Individuals interested in participating in the NAARCH internship should be highly motivated, patient, and detail-oriented. The internship is intended for current college juniors and seniors and recent graduates.

Individuals who have not yet completed their junior year need not apply unless they have extensive experience that offsets their lack of academic training. Prior archaeological experience in either the field or in the lab is not necessary, but will be a factor
in our selection.

Internship positions are unpaid volunteer positions with museum perks while working in the lab in New York. Course credit will be offered to those individuals currently enrolled in an accredited university. The term of the internship will be from early June through mid August 2014. Interns will be scheduled to work 2-3 days a week.

Applications will be accepted until April 1, 2014. Interested applicants should send a resume and a 1-page statement of purpose to
