The Regional Cultural Anthropology Program of the National Capital Region was established in 2012.  The program manages applied anthropology projects and an internship program in support of national park units in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.  Multiple baseline ethnographic research projects are underway in partnership with academic institutions and other scholars to document relationships between park resources and park-associated people and groups.  The results of this research will identify ethnographic groups and resources; enhance community understanding and engagement; improve consultation in park planning; and provide opportunities to apply traditional cultural knowledge to management decisions. The mission of the National Capital Regional Cultural Anthropology Program of the National Park Service is to connect people and parks now and in our next century of service.
